Short answer: Tiznit is about 90 km south of Agadir on the N1, roughly 1 h 15 to 1 h 30 by car. It is an easy day trip: the walled medina and its silver souk in the morning, lunch, then Aglou Beach, about 15 km away, for the afternoon. With a car you can also add the Souss-Massa National Park on the way.

Tiznit is quieter than Agadir and far less touristy, which is exactly why our customers like it. The town is known across Morocco for its silver jewellery, its ochre ramparts and its laid-back pace. Here is how to make the most of it with a rental car.

Getting there from Agadir

Agadir to Tiznit
Road N1 national road heading south
Distance About 90 km
Driving time About 1 h 15 to 1 h 30
Tolls None
Tiznit to Aglou Beach About 15 km, 15 to 20 minutes

Leaving Agadir, the road crosses the busy towns of Inezgane and Ait Melloul, where traffic can be slow at peak times. After that it opens up across the Souss plain, flat and straight, with farms and greenhouses on both sides.

From experience: straight roads invite speed, and this stretch has regular radar checks. Keep to 100 km/h on the open road and slow down early when you see the signs for a village or a roundabout.

What to see in Tiznit

  • The Mechouar: the large square at the heart of the medina, surrounded by arcades. Start here.
  • The silver souk: small workshops and shops selling Berber jewellery. Take your time, compare, and bargain politely.
  • The ramparts: several kilometres of walls with gates and towers around the old town. A short drive around the outside gives a good view of them.

Park outside the medina, near one of the gates, and walk in. The old town is compact and easy to explore on foot.

Aglou Beach

A short drive from Tiznit, Aglou is a long Atlantic beach with strong waves, popular with surfers and local families. The sunsets are the reason to stay until the end of the day. Swimming can be dangerous when the sea is rough, so watch the flags and the conditions.

Souss-Massa National Park on the way

The Souss-Massa National Park lies along the coast between Agadir and Tiznit, around the mouth of the Oued Massa. It is known for birdlife, including the rare northern bald ibis. Access is by secondary roads from the N1; check the access road and conditions before you go, and leave the car only in designated places.

Going further south

If you have more time, the coast south of Tiznit continues toward Mirleft and Legzira Beach, known for its red cliffs and rock arch. It makes a longer day, but with a car you can choose your own pace.

Which car for Tiznit?

The roads to Tiznit and Aglou are paved, so an economical car is enough. The Dacia Logan and Dacia Sandero Streetway start at 300 DH (30€) per day. For secondary roads toward the coast and the national park, the higher Dacia Sandero Stepway is more comfortable.
